Elvish Lantern

2025

Final graduation project of my apprenticeship in creative metalwork.

Completing an apprenticeship in creative metalwork entails the creation of a final exam project, the ‘Gesellenstück’.

We had to come up with an original design for a lantern to showcase our various skills. Additionally all the necessary technical drawings had to be drawn by hand and a documentation of the entire build process had to be written.

Inspired by the wonderful designs in Elvish architecture - a mix of art noveau and neogothic elements - I came up with this fantastical lantern.

The body is made from individual cast and bent bronze elements. The forged steel hanger is held together by tension without external rivets or any welding being necessary.
